AbstractThe objective of the Telematics International Mission (TIM) is to generate 3-dimensional images of the Earth's surface. The distributed satellite system takes advantage of different perspectives towards a given target area and uses photogrammetric methods. Here by distributed control technologies a formation/constellation of 9 cooperating small satellites is realized. The application scenario focusses on characterization of ash clouds from volcano eruptions, addressing ash distribution profiles in different heights. This provides useful information to plan detour maneuvers for airplanes to avoid damage for engines.
